The Cottingham Singers with guests The Hedon Mixed Voice Choir had a very successful concert on Wednesday 13th December 2017 which was held at the Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church. Our guests who were led by Gill Hanslip and accompanied by Claire Bovill gave an awe inspiring performance. They were truly magnificent and as well as their own pieces we enjoyed them joining with us to sing the carols the audience participated in. We look forward to joining them for future performances.  Our own choir led by Paul Anderson and accompanied by Marlene Pinchbeck  (piano)  and Mark Pinchbeck (organ) was a skillful and very competent performance which was enjoyed by everyone.  The programme was varied and consisted of traditional carols, less well know ones such as All my Heart and Adam Lay y bounden and more secular ones such as Do you hear what I hear and Walking in the air from the Snowman. The latter was ably conducted by twelve year old Chloe Suter after only a few minutes instruction by Paul. The refreshments served in the interval were well received and enjoyed by everyone. Many thanks to everyone who contributed food and also to those who did the hard work preparing, serving and clearing up on the night.  At the end of the concert flowers were presented to Gill Hanslip, Claire Bovill and Marlene Pinchbeck and Paul received his usual gift along with everyone’s thanks for his hard work and our good wishes.  The audience was asked to donate to the Cottingham Civic Hall Trust on their way out and a total of £50.00p was raised which we hope will benefit them.  In conclusion the evening was a very enjoyable and successful occasion and I’m sure everyone left with the Christmas spirit stirring inside them.  Here’s to all future performances planned for 2018. May they be as successful as this one.

On the 12th July ‘The Cottingham Singers’ performed their annual summer concert to a very appreciative and at times singing along audience. The concert was held at The Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church. The programme  was as usual, extremely varied and entertaining, featuring songs from  Louis Armstrong to Simon & Garfunkel and Walt Disney. Our thanks and appreciation were expressed to Marlene our wonderful accompanist, for her continued hard work and patience.  And of course to Paul our MD for his skill and dedication throughout the past year.  Our nominated charity for the evening was ‘The Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain’.

On the 18th June 2017 The Cottingham Singers once again appeared at The Cottingham Open Garden Day  Event.  Congratulations to our Debbie Code and her family, for organizing a very pleasant event. The day was a huge success with stalls, cakes and refreshments. The sun shone brightly, and a good time was had by all.  The amazing amount of £520 was raised for Dove House Hospice, so well done to all.

On the 14th December 2016 at the Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church, The Cottingham Singers gave their much anticipated Christmas Concert, to a very appreciative audience. The programme included many sing-along favourites, plus traditional carols new to us all, which were very well received. The concert also raised welcomed funds for the local ‘Kickstart TYA Cancer Support’.  The choir showed their thanks and appreciation to Marlene and Paul for all their hard work, with the giving of flowers and voucher respectfully.

The Cottingham Singers performed at The Darby & Joan Hall on the afternoon of the 8th of December 2016 to a packed-out audience for the Cottingham branch of the U 3 A’s. This was a return performance, when once again, everyone enjoyed many Christmas favourite’s and a few carols which were not so familiar.
